WHY INDIANAPOLIS

01

Engage the Community

The Riverside community and neighborhood organizations such as the Riverside Civic League, United Schools and the Vision Academy, the Diabetes Impact Project, Urban Legacy Lands Initiative, 16 Tech, and more have participated in our planning sessions.

02

Grow the Community

The sports eco-system is unique in Indianapolis with major sporting events, national governing bodies, medical research, academic research and the business of sport.

.

03

Enhance the Community

Kuntz Sports Complex sits at the intersection of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail extension, Riverside Park Promenade, White River Trail, and B&O Trail, providing an unique pedestrian and bicycle friendly destination.

Have Questions?

Frequently Asked
Questions

How can I learn more about rugby?

You can develop an understanding of the international game, through the terrific Netflix documentary “Full Contact”. You can also learn about the local game here (hyperlink to club schedules) and once Kuntz is ready for play we will have clinics and educational sessions to help everyone enjoy the game.

When is the Rugby World Cup?

The Men’s Rugby World Cup is the third largest sporting event in the world, eclipsed only by the Summer Olympics and the FIFA World Cup.  The Men’s and Women’s World Cups are quadrennial competitions and will be held for the first time in the USA in 2031 (Men’s) and 2033 (Women’s).  Site selection for the 2031 World Cup will likely begin in late 2026 or early 2027.  Indianapolis has a unique opportunity to support both competitions at Kuntz Stadium and potentially other Indianapolis venues.

Why is Kuntz an ideal location?

Kuntz Stadium has hosted numerous local, national and international events, including the Pan Am Games, and has the potential to return to its former glory. It is accessible and sits within sight of a vibrant downtown core, amid a diverse residential community, adjacent to the nation’s largest urban parks, a neighbor to IU School of Medicine and 16Tech, a connector of multiple urban trails and a gateway to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

.

How can I get involved?

We have lots of opportunities for volunteers to get involved.  Please let us know your interests and special skills and we will get in touch.

When will Kuntz open?

We are working with neighborhood groups and city leaders to open a revitalized Kuntz Stadium soon, but no later than 2027.  While we revitalize Kuntz we will also work to ensure local and community groups continue to have access to a safe, enjoyable facility.

..

Will the renovated facility be available to other organizations?

Yes. Rugby is played on the largest rectangular playing field. A rugby field will accommodate soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, football, hurling, and more. Please contact our customer support.
